The Rev. Dr. Judith Hirsch-Fikejs - Pastor

Rev, Judith has been pastor of the Acton Church since 1985.  She is a graduate of Stephens College, Columbia, MO (B.A.), Fuller Seminary, Pasadena, CA (M.Div.), and Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, CA (D.Min.).  She is the daughter of a pastor and has worked in churches in a variety of settings since she was 17 years old.  She and her husband George have been married for nearly 50 years, and they have three daughters and a son, five granddaughters and a grandson.  She has been active in local activities through the years and writes a column for the local news media. She is the first full-time pastor to serve the church since its inception in 1888.  In addition to her pastoral duties, she serves the congregation as organist and overseeing secretarial duties. 

She has also served the greater Church in a variety of ecumenical settings, is a past moderator of the Presbytery of San Fernando and its Permanent Judicial Commission, served as member of the Synod Council and its Executive Committee and as Moderator of the Permanent Judicial Commission of the Synod, served on several Presbytery committees throughout the years, assisted several churches as temporary moderator, served the greater community as a member of the Advisory Board of the Acton/Warm Springs Rehab Centers, served as volunteer chaplain for five years at the Acton Rehabilitation Center and the Warm Springs Center, Castaic, CA, as well as serving for several years as volunteer chaplain at Valley Presbyterian Hospital, Van Nuys, CA.  In former years she was involved in secondary private school education, teaching classes in English, Social Studies, Literature, Bible, Music Education, Introduction to Fine Arts, Band Director, and assisting with student productions of Oliver, Fiddler on the Roof, and Sound of Music. 


Elder Judith Fox - Clerk of Session

Mrs. Fox is an Acton resident who has been a part of the church for nearly a decade.  She is presently serving as Clerk of the Session, and together with other Elders is responsible for developing and updating the church directory.  She also keeps the minutes of the Session and the Baptismal, wedding, church membership and ordination records of the congregation.  She is a native of Texas and a graduate of the University of Texas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.  She can be reached at 661-269-5623.

 


Elder Virginia Maguire - Church Treasurer

Ms Maguire is a long-time Acton resident and before her retirement worked for the Los Angeles County Department of Social Services for many years.  She is presently assisting the youth of our community as an educational aide for the Acton-Agua Dulce School District. She served on the Board of Deacons prior to becoming an Elder.  She is a graduate of the University of Southern California.  She can be reached at 661-269-4028.


Elder Dana Abercrombie - Christian Education

Mrs. Abercrombie and her family moved to Acton nearly five years ago and together with her family has been active in church and community ever since.  She assists her Scout Master husband with Cub Scout pack 145, and together with her children, is a participant in classes at Dancin' in Acton.  She also participates in productions at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center in music and ballet.  She assists the church in many ways, not the least is being a part of the elementary Sunday school experience for our pre-school and elementary students and supervising the decorating and crafts for our Vacation Bible School each summer. She served on the Board of Deacons prior to becoming an Elder.  She is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, CA (B.S.) and the University of Santa Clara, Santa Clara, CA (M.B.A.).

Sam has been a part of the Acton Church for a number of years and is beginning his third term on Session.  He is an acclaimed graphic artist and sculptor and has researched and designed an entire line of Celtic jewelry (the link for Sam's website can be found on our "Links" page).  Sam has been a member of the Sanctuary Choir in past years, has given direction and leadership in worship, property development and renovation.  Sam resides in Acton with his wife, several dogs, llamas and an entire flock of Navajo Churro sheep.


Elder Dottie Nagatoshi - Congregational Care

 

Mrs. Dottie Nagatoshi has been a member of Acton Church for a number of years and has served for several terms as one of the members of the Board of Deacons.  She resides in the Newhall area and is a local real estate agent.  Dottie has been actively supporting the ministries that reach persons in the congregation and has been available to many who have needed emergency transportation and other services.  She has been a staunch supporter of the Food Pantry.  She can be reached at 253-3262.
