“God’s glory is revealed in two great books: the book of creation and the book of Scripture. The first shows us His power and majesty; the second shows us His grace and salvation. We are called to read both with wonder and obedience.” — John Calvin
WELCOME, ANNOUNCMENTS, GUESTS AND SPECIAL DAYS
Special Music for a Special Guest "The Lord Bless You and Keep You"
CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: All who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons,
All: By whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Leader: The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—
All: Heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
Leader: Alleluia! The Spirit of the Lord renews the face of the earth:
All: Come, let us adore him. Alleluia!
OPENING HYMN # 25 - Immortal Invisible, Brown Hymnal
1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessed most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious - Thy great name we praise.
2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, Thou rulest in might;
Thy justice, like mountains, high soaring above
Thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.
3 To all, life Thou givest - to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest - the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish - but naught changest Thee.
4 Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All praise we would render - O help us to see
'Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee!
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: Ephesians 2:4-7
Leader: Christians, how do Christ’s resurrection and ascension benefit us?
All: God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION
Father, you have raised us up together with Jesus into new life. We are called and privileged to seek the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Yet, so much of our lives is marked by the deeds of the flesh, by that which is only of the brokenness and rebellion of the world below. Forgive us, loving Father. Cleanse us and renew us, for Jesus’ sake, who has once for all made a sacrifice for sin and is now seated at the right hand of God, ruling over all things for the sake of his church. Holy Spirit, set our minds on things above, where Christ is, who is our life. In the hope of his name, we pray. Amen.
SILENT CONFESSION PRAYERS FOR GOD’S PEOPLE
Old Testament Reading Psalm 19, pages 498-499
The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork.
Day to day pours forth speech, and night to night declares knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; their voice is not heard; yet their voice goes out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun, which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy, and like a strong man runs its course with joy. Its rising is from the end of the heavens, and its circuit to the end of them; and nothing is hidden from its heat. The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the decrees of the Lord are sure, making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is clear, enlightening the eyes; the fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever; the ordinances of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey, and drippings of the honeycomb. Moreover by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward. But who can detect their errors? Clear me from hidden faults. Keep back your servant also from the insolent; do not let them have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
The Word of the Lord, Thanks Be To God
NEW TESTAMENT: John 1:1-5, 14, 18, Pages 91-92
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being. What has come into being in him was life, and the life was the light of all people. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth. No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father’s heart, who has made him known. The Word of the Lord, Thanks Be To God

CLOSING HYMN # 66 To God Be The Glory, Brown Hymnal
1 To God be the glory - great things He hath done!
So loved He the world that he gave us His Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the Life-gate that all may go in.
Refrain: Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father thru Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory - great things He hath done!
2 O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood!
To ev'ry believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives. {Refrain]
